Subject: What are the characteristics of the metaverse, [firstname]?

Hi [firstname],

Even though the Metaverse is in its infancy, certain characteristics are already becoming prominent and are likely to define what the Metaverse is going forward.  I’m going to cover the most important three in today’s installment.

The first characteristic of the multiverse is that it is boundless.  Because it is a 3D virtual space, the metaverse has no barriers – it is infinite. There are no limits as to how many people can use it at the same time. An unlimited number of activities can take place simultaneously. There are no limits on what industries can enter it. It is constantly evolving and changing.

If you’ve ever played really immersive online games like World of Warcraft or Fortnite you’ll know this to be true.  As time goes by, when more uses for the metaverse can be found, this can only grow.  It is also possible that more than one metaverse will be developed and people will be able to move from one metaverse to another seamlessly.

The metaverse is also persistent. It can't be unplugged, rebooted or reset. Users can join the metaverse at any time, from anywhere. When you log off and log back in again you can pick up where you left off, meaning you’ll have continuity to your experience. 

Finally, the metaverse (like the Internet) is decentralized.  It’s not owned by any particular corporation or entity.  We’re seeing this already in cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin.  Unlike currencies of old, this currency is not backed by any government or precious metal.  This means it cannot be manipulated artificially.  Governments HATE this, BTW.  The blockchain technology means that all transactions are open and public.  It can be converted into any “fiat” currency easily and without restrictions.  As the metaverse evolves, expect it to get easier to move between the “real” and “virtual” worlds.
